Every Raomio swimsuit and pair of swim shorts starts life as something you’d normally throw away: plastic bottles. We make our swimwear from Repreve® fabric, a recycled fiber that turns post-consumer plastic into soft, durable, quick-drying swim fabric. Here’s what that means and why we chose it.
What is Repreve fabric?
Repreve is a recycled performance fiber made by Unifi, primarily from post-consumer plastic bottles. The bottles are collected, cleaned, broken down, and spun into new fiber that’s woven into fabric. Instead of making polyester from scratch, Repreve gives plastic that already exists a second life and keeps it out of landfills and waterways.
Why we use it for kids’ swimwear
It’s made for water. Repreve fabric is lightweight, breathable, and quick-drying, so it handles pool days, beach trips, and sprinkler afternoons without staying soggy.
It keeps up with kids. The fabric is durable and holds its shape through active play, sand, and repeated washing. Our boys’ swim shorts have an elastic waistband with an adjustable drawstring, and our girls’ one-pieces are fully lined with an adjustable tie-back, so they move with growing bodies.
It’s traceable. Unifi’s U TRUST® verification program lets brands confirm that the fiber in their fabric is genuine Repreve, so the recycled claim on the label is one we can check.
It fits how we think about fashion. Raomio was built on the idea that bold, expressive clothing shouldn’t cost the planet. Using recycled fiber for the pieces that get the hardest wear is one of the most direct ways we can act on that.

Caring for your Repreve swimwear
To keep your swimwear looking its best, rinse it in cool fresh water after swimming, machine wash cold, and lay it flat to dry. Avoiding high heat helps the fabric and prints last season after season.
